Why VIHB registration matters for waste transport

Not just anyone may collect or transport waste. Those who do so commercially must be registered on the VIHB list. For you as the disposing party, this is an important checkpoint when choosing a waste partner.

What is the VIHB list?

VIHB stands for Transporters, Collectors, Dealers and Brokers of waste. Companies that carry out one or more of these activities on a commercial basis must be listed in this national register, managed by the NIWO. Without registration it is not legally permitted to transport or collect waste.

Why this protects you

If you work with an unregistered party, you run the risk that your waste is not legally disposed of. This can lead to problems during inspections, invalid documentation and even liability. A VIHB registration gives you the assurance that the collector is authorised and that the chain is sound.

How to check it

Ask your waste partner for their VIHB number and, if you wish, check it in the public register. IAM is VIHB-registered and also holds the relevant permits for collecting and transporting (hazardous) waste streams, nationally and internationally.
